Industrial has been a major factor responsible for a considerable environmental disturbance owning to increasing use of resources and chemicals which leads to environment degradation, climate change, increasing global temperatures or Global Warming. Many nations, therefore, have become more aware and enthusiastic to reduce the causes of such issues and this has been triggered as a direct influential condition in international trades. Because of this, Thai entrepreneurs are driven to strengthen their competitiveness in this industry. Thailand Textile Institute has initiated The “Environmentally-friendly and Sustainable Textile Product Development” Campaign in year 2014 so as to enhance the competency of Thai textile entrepreneurs in developing eco-friendly and sustainable products to align with the trade regulations imposed by partner countries and to be a role model for Environmental Footprint and Sustainable Material Index. Consequently, Thailand Textile Institute has assigned the faculty of Engineering, Thammasat University and the leader of working group, Asst. Prof.Dr.Harnpon Phungrassami, to perform and give suggestion about Environmental Footprint to 6 manufacturers as follows;
1.Champ Kabin Co Ltd. Men Underwear (LITE Arrow)
2.Champ Ace Co Ltd. Polo Golf Shirt
3. Ban Chiang Carpets Co.,Ltd Wool Carpet
4. Vk Garment Co.,Ltd. Leg Jeans (SLIM FIT)
5. Outdoor Innovation Co.,Ltd Sleeping Bag (KARANA)
6. Alpha Processing Co., Ltd. Flame Retardant and Dyed Polyester Fabric
Based on collective information from entrepreneurs and environmental accounting for product carbon footprint analysis initiated by the European Commission using Life Cycle Assessment, it can be concluded that the carbon footprint levels of underwear for men, hand woven wool rugs, jeans, sleeping bags and flame retardant polyester fabrics trigger mainly during raw material processing while that of short-sleeve golf shirts mainly occurs during use. |
