Research objectives are to evaluate relationships between dams / power plants and surrounding communities where living within 5 km of dams/power plants and farther, and to measure level of confidence of the both target groups. Variables of which being measured consist of 4 aspects of relationship, namely, organization image, relationship, communication situation, and social responsibility. Relationship level of the 4 aspects definitely varies according to communities perception, satisfaction, and participation towards the power plants. In addition, confidence level towards generating process of the entire power plants in 16 provinces is measured. Quantitative research had used to collect data for measuring Knowledge Attitude Practice (KAP) of total 7,743 samples divided into 3,012 samples that living 5 km. around the dams / power plants, and 3,133 people living farther, afterwards, more samples consisting of 1,598 people living in remote areas from the plants had been also measured. For quality research method, focus group was used to interview 115 samples comprising of 21 local leaders, 26 community leaders, 45 informal leaders and 23 public media workers. Owing to data analysis, key indicators for measuring relationships between the communities and all of the dams / power plants needed to be created. Correlation between rationale of community leaders and their perception, satisfaction and acceptance was categorized as well.
Findings of the quantitative research demonstrate that residents of the surrounding communities having good relationship with the dams / power plants. Generally, their awareness of organization image, relationship, communication and social responsibility indicated significantly high above their satisfaction. Meanwhile, their satisfaction level was higher than the four aspects of acceptance. Absolutely, awareness level of the residents who live within 5 km. around the dams / power plants was higher than those living out of the boundary.
Analyzing relationships between the surrounding communities and the dams / power plants, four aspects of which had been examined were organization image, relationship, communication and social responsibility. Results were shown as follows: 1) Image awareness consists of 5 issues, that is, awareness of organization image, awareness of personnel image, management awareness, awareness of impact on public interests and awareness of assistance.
2) Image satisfaction consists of 5 issues, that is, satisfaction of organization image, satisfaction of personnel image, management satisfaction, satisfaction of impact on public interests, and assistance satisfaction.
3) Image acceptance consists of 5 issues, that is, organization acceptance, acceptance of personnel, management acceptance, acceptance of impact on public interests, and acceptance of assistance.
4) Relationship awareness consist of 5 issues, that is, relationship awareness of problem situation, relationship awareness of support, relationship awareness of distrust, relationship awareness of openness and relationship awareness of consequences.
5) Relationship satisfaction consists of 5 issues, that is, relationship satisfaction on problem situation, relationship satisfaction on support, relationship satisfaction on distrust, relationship satisfaction on openness and relationship satisfaction on consequences.
6) Communication awareness consists of 4 issues, that is, communication awareness of media use, communication awareness of information / activities, communication awareness of practices and communication awareness of understanding.
7) Social responsibility awareness consists of 5 issues, that is, social responsibility awareness of offering, social responsibility awareness of people’s needs, social responsibility awareness of natural loss, social responsibility awareness of government bureaus’ benefits only, and social responsibility awareness of problem solutions. |
